Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users,

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.

We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don't have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.

We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.

We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.

I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

January 6, 2012 - Valve® today announced the 2011 growth data for Steam, a leading platform for PC & Mac games and digital entertainment.
During 2011 the platform grew to offer over 1,800 games to over 40 million accounts. Year-over-year unit sales increased by more than 100% for the seventh straight year, and during the 2011 Holiday Sale Steam's simultaneous user number eclipsed the 5 million player mark.

Meanwhile Steam doubled the amount of content delivered in 2011 vs. 2010, serving over 780 Petabytes of data to gamers around the world. To meet the increasing demand for games and services on the platform, the Steam infrastructure more than doubled its service capacity and a new content delivery architecture was deployed to improve user download rates.

Over 14.5 mil copies of Steamworks games were registered during the year, a 67% increase over 2010. Steamworks titles shipped during 2011 include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution , and more. Since the suite of services was released three years ago, Steamworks has shipped in over 400 games.

"Steam and Steamworks continues to evolve to keep up with customer and developer demands for new services and content," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Support for in-game item trading prompted the exchange of over 19 million items. Support for Free to Play (FTP) games, launched in June, has spurred the launch of 18 FTP titles on Steam, with more coming in 2012. Looking forward, we are preparing for the launch of the Big Picture UI mode, which will allow gamers to experience Steam on large displays and in more rooms of the house."

Kommt ihr gerade in Steam rein?

Bei mir kommt das kleine Updatefenster, aber es tut sich nix bis Win7 irgendwann APPCRASH meldet und ich das ganze beenden muss.

Hat irgendwas damit zu tun wenn man sich aus Deutschland einloggen will.

Hotspotshield installieren -> einschalten -> in Steam einloggen-> Hotspot Shield ausmachen und loszocken =)

ich dachte dasfunzt nur für offline spiele undn et online`?

Wie das genau zusammenhängt hab ich noch nicht gerafft.
Das Problem tritt aufjedenfall auf, wenn man mit dem Steamclienten aus Deutschland online gehen will.
Denn über den Browser komme ich selbst mit meiner regulären IP in Steam rein.
Sobald ich die Steam.exe starte will's aber nicht.
Mit Hotspotshield (oder sonst einem VPN Dienst) klappts aufjedenfall.
Sobald man in Steam drin ist läufts aber komischerweise, hab so heute aufjedenfall schon 'ne Runde CSS gezockt, meine Lieblingsserver waren aber relativ leer. :/

So jetzt geht's bei mir auch wieder ohne HotSpotShield.
Außerdem gibt's gerade guten Downloadspeed und aus irgendeinem Grund kann ich Dota2 laden.




Hab keine Nachricht bekommen das ich in der Beta bin oder das es eine OpenBeta gibt oder ein offenes Wochenende, es war aufeinmal in meiner Spieleliste.

Steam Greenlight will allow developers and publishers to post information and media about their game in an effort to convince the Community that their game should be released on Steam. Greenlight piggybacks on Steam Workshop's flexible system that organizes content and lets customers rate and leave feedback.

As well as serving as a clearing house for game submissions, Greenlight will provide an incredible level of added exposure for new games and an opportunity to connect directly with potential customers and fans.

"Making the call to publish or not publish a title isn't fun," said Anna Sweet, at Valve. "Many times opinions vary and our internal jury is hung on a decision. But with the introduction of the Steam Workshop we realized an opportunity to enlist the community's help as we review certain titles and, hopefully, increase the volume and quality of creative submissions."

Steam Greenlight will be released August 30.
