Gaming will be getting a huge shot in the arm starting in 2020, as publisher Ziggurat Interactive has unveiled plans to remaster, rework, and restore a wide variety of classic console and PC games from the ‘80s, ‘90s, and beyond. With a goal of preserving and expanding the legacy of video games as entertainment and an art form, and making them available to a wider audience, Ziggurat Interactive will showcase a lineup of beloved retro games and entirely new IPs for modern consoles and PCs as they build out a stunning portfolio of favorites from across the decades.

The first games Ziggurat will release include remade versions of these classic titles:
First released in 2001, Deadly Dozen is a WWII tactical squad-based shooter developed by nFusion Interactive. Infiltrate German-occupied territory with your squad of 12 military misfits. Destroy, steal, and kidnap your way out. Battle your way through a campaign spanning six war-torn countries. Each of your 12 death-dealing squadmates specializes in a different skillset such as sniper, demolitions, etc., requiring players to use teamwork if they want to survive.

Classic battlefield helicopter combat simulation Super Huey returns to the skies! This 1985 retro Mega-hit, developed by Cosmi, features four immersive modes: flight training, rescue missions, exploration, and combat. Players must use their multitasking skills to defend brothers in arms or gather critical information about the terrain, all while keeping that bird in the air.

Fantasy action game Forbidden Forest is back, challenging archers to cleanse the woods of evil. Armed with only four arrows per level, players must eliminate monsters that include bees, giant spiders, mutated frogs, snakes, wizards, and dragons. Four levels of difficulty— Innocent, Trooper, Daredevil, and Crazy—are sure to keep brave archers on their toes in this updated version of a 1983 Cosmi classic that used a Demogorgon before it was cool.
Each of these licensed titles will be adapted to run on the latest hardware, featuring updated visuals and gameplay.

“Everyone at Ziggurat shares a passion for classic and modern games, and we’ve turned that passion into a game company that will be unlike any other,” said Wade Rosen, CEO of Ziggurat. “For each classic game we work with, we’re doing more than just reworking it –– we’re improving upon it in ways that are respectful to the original while preserving what the fans loved about it, and also boosting the ‘awesome’ of it for modern players.”

    • Ziggurat Interactive, recently formed publisher of multiplatform retro and modern games, announced today they have purchased the rights to multiple game licenses previously owned by Majesco Entertainment. This includes the fan-favorite BloodRayne franchise as well as Advent Rising, Raze’s Hell, and Flip’s Twisted World, which now join Ziggurat’s catalog of more than 200 IPs.

Ziggurat Interactive is already working with original BloodRayne developer, Terminal Reality, to update the PC versions of the BloodRayne games to improve compatibility and provide various enhancements. Ziggurat is also developing plans to further explore and expand BloodRayne’s already rich universe.

“BloodRayne is a beloved franchise with a huge fan base and we’re extremely appreciative of the opportunity to be stewards for this fantastic series,” said Ziggurat Interactive’s President, Wade Rosen. “Players the world over fondly remember titles like BloodRayne and Advent Rising and having the opportunity to not only bring these games to a new audience but to expand their universes is something we take seriously.”

"We are really excited to have this opportunity to revisit one of our favorite game series and make it available to a new audience," said Mark Randel, President, Terminal Reality, Inc.

The third-person horror action series BloodRayne introduced gamers to Rayne, a brutal half-vampire beauty traveling the world to foil Nazi plans, battle supernatural threats, and along the way, uncover more about her own complex past. Featuring a unique protagonist, fast-action combat, vampiric powers, and an extensive globe-spanning storyline, BloodRayne offered a distinctly different and exciting gameplay experience that encouraged being “bad to be good.” Beloved by fans and critics alike, BloodRayne became a true cross-media phenomenon, spanning games, comics, and films across the early 2000s.

    • Ziggurat Interactive, publisher of multi-platform retro and modern games, announced today they have closed a deal with Rainbow Arts, a popular game developer and publisher from the ‘80s and ‘90s. As part of the agreement, Ziggurat Interactive now owns more than 80 titles from the Rainbow Arts catalog, including Rendering Ranger R2 (known as Targa outside North America), Logical, Lollypop, X-Out, and M.U.D.S. – Mean Ugly Dirty Sport.

“We are incredibly pleased to add a number of significant games from Rainbow Arts to Ziggurat’s growing catalogue of historic games,” said Michael Devine, SVP of Business Development at Ziggurat Interactive. “Rainbow Arts was a premiere and iconic European video game publisher of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Each game released during that time frame – mainly made for the C64, Amiga, and PC – evokes memories of 16-bit wonders, colorful graphics, and playful challenges the moment you see the rainbow logo appear. We can’t wait to revitalize these games and share them with today's classic gaming fans.”

Rainbow Arts Software GmbH was a German video game publisher based in Gütersloh, Germany, founded in 1984 by Marc Ullrich and Thomas Meiertoberens. Many of their games were originally released on the Commodore 64 (C64) and the Commodore Amiga, with later titles being created for, or converted to, the IBM-PC platform. The studio is best known for titles such as Logical, Lollypop, X-Out, and Mad TV™.

Rainbow Arts’ most prominent release, Rendering Ranger: R2, is one of the most sought-after games for the Super Famicom, as only 10,000 copies were manufactured and were only available in Japan. As part of the agreement, Rendering Ranger: R2 joins Ziggurat’s extensive library, and the company has promised an update on their plans for the title later this spring.

    • - Ziggurat Interactive, publisher of multiplatform retro and modern games, announces today Deadly Dozen Reloaded, a reimagining of the squad-based stealth game originally developed and released by N-Fusion Interactive in 2001. The game is set to release on PC, consoles, and Nintendo Switch in spring 2022, and will feature modern updates — including a visual overhaul and enhanced squad controls.

In World War II, the United States Army was ordered by General Dwight D. Eisenhower to recruit a special operations unit who would be capable of carrying out dangerous missions in secret — any time, and in any environment. Twelve uniquely skilled men were recruited, each one possessing the physical prowess and a distaste for authority well-suited for such an unconventional unit. They became known as the Deadly Dozen.

Choose your squad of four from a roster of twelve playable characters, each with unique stats, weapon, and equipment proficiencies to complete critical objectives behind enemy lines. Players can match their squad to their preferred playstyle, whether that means they want to go full stealth, focus on run-and-gun action, or make some noise with loud, devastating explosions. Players command their unit with the Squad Wheel, which they can use to call out movement orders, fire orders, stance, and formation changes to adapt to challenges in the field. Additionally, direct control is never limited to just one of the four squad members, as players can swap their playable character at any time.

"The Deadly Dozen games are unique military shooters that reward careful planning and clever tactics as much as they do pure shooting skills,” said Michael Devine, SVP of Business Development at Ziggurat Interactive. “Since the release of the original game in 2001, tactical shooters exploded in popularity, and we’re delighted to introduce fans to this refreshed and enhanced version of one of the originators of the genre.”

While the structure of Deadly Dozen Reloaded remains the same as the original release, level assets, textures and character models have been rebuilt from the ground up. Real-time lighting, high-quality particle effects, and other environmental effects have been added to bring a sense of realism into the game. The PC version will support up to 4K resolution with no framerate limit, while consoles will run at 1080p and 30fps. Audio has been enhanced to include much higher fidelity samples, real-time audio effects such as reverb and occlusion, 3D surround sound, and support for 5.1 or more speaker configurations.

Key features of Deadly Dozen Reloaded include:
      • Reimagined for the Modern Era: Graphics and audio aren’t the only things that have been updated. Enemy AI is now more sophisticated, making fights more engaging, and reworked vehicle physics make driving to objectives more fun and realistic.
      • 10 Giant Missions: Large, faithfully recreated maps containing objectives that can be tackled in any order at the player’s discretion. Each mission will typically take over one hour to complete on normal difficulty.
      • Customizable Loadouts: Eleven different weapons — six American and five German — and seven types of equipment, including first aid kits, binoculars, and a variety of explosives, allow players to customize squad members to suit their play style and the mission at hand
      • No More Permadeath: Players can experience heart-pounding escapes with half of their team, and fallen squad-mates will recuperate for the next mission. No more reloading save files!

    • Ziggurat Interactive today is announcing an April 29, 2022 release date on PC for Deadly Dozen Reloaded, (Steam/GOG) a reimagining of the squad-based stealth game originally developed and released by NFusion Interactive in 2001. Also coming to Switch, PS4, and Xbox this summer, the all-new Deadly Dozen: Reloaded has been rebuilt from the ground up with modern graphics and enhanced squad controls.

Create a squad of four from a roster of 12 playable characters, each with unique stats, weapon, and equipment proficiencies, and take them behind enemy lines to complete dangerous objectives crucial to the Allied war effort. Players can match their squad to their preferred playstyle, whether that means they want to go full stealth style, focus on run-and-gun action, or make some noise with loud but devastating explosions. Complete control of the squad is available in the form of the squad wheel — from here, players can call out squad movements, fire orders, stance and formation changes, and more. Additionally, direct control is never limited to just one of the four squad members, as players can swap their playable character at any time.
