24 Entertainment and NetEase Games made some exciting announcements about the future of NARAKA: BLADEPOINT yesterday, including the long-awaited news that NARAKA is coming to consoles.

From June 23 the popular 60-player battle royale with “Unchained Multiplayer Combat” - an exhilarating combination of melee action and unparalleled movement through parkour, will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass.

To coincide with the Xbox launch, players will also be able to choose a brand new weapon: The Dual Blades. This is the first double-handed weapon in NARAKA, allowing players to deliver striking blows with a high attacking speed and unstoppable movement with multiple-hit combos.

In the near future, NARAKA players will also be able to experience the first chapter of the game’s brand new campaign mode. This new mode will see teams of three taking on new enemies and bosses that will offer completely new challenges to players, who will quickly find that taking down one of these bosses will require some new strategies to what they’ve been used to in PvP.

Since its launch in August 2021, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT has gone from strength to strength, introducing powerful new heroes and exciting new game modes to keep the game engaging for players. 24 Entertainment and NetEase Games are pleased to be able to share that NARAKA: BLADEPOINT has now sold over 10 million copies since launch, and to celebrate they will be offering an in-game gift to everyone.

Talking about the launch of NARAKA: BLADEPOINT on Xbox X|S and Xbox Game Pass, Zhipeng Hu, Vice President of NetEase said “We share the same ambition with Microsoft to bring an appealing and exciting new gaming experience to wider communities.” He went on to say, “It’s a milestone step for us to bring this melee battle gameplay with oriental aesthetics and philosophies to a new audience in Western markets, together with Microsoft, one of NetEase’s long-standing partners.”

    • NetEase and 24 Entertainment are excited to announce the expansion of their SHOWDOWN campaign mode for NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, coming October 28 to PC and Xbox Series X|S.

SHOWDOWN: Chapter II promises a wealth of challenging content for warriors to experience, introducing new playable heroes, fierce new enemies to defeat, and advanced gameplay systems.

In trios, hone your melee skills across three new stages, designed for intense bouts of cooperative play:

      • Brave the Desert Tribulations saga and cleave through enemy hordes to reach this zone’s punishing mini-boss, the Stone Monster.
      • Push back against the tides of evil in Immovable as you and your fellow warriors build and fight in this tower defence-inspired level.
      • Throw down against Omni’s sinister second incarnation, Omnius·Rock, when you face the Toppled Mountains finale.
      • SHOWDOWN: Chapter II will also expand the number of playable heroes available in this mode. Fan favourites Matari the stealthy assassin, and Temulch the juggernaut will join Kurumi, Tarka, Valda, and Viper.

Players can experiment with new team compositions in PvE, further customising their heroes using powerful Souljades. Already available in NARAKA: BLADEPOINT’s competitive modes, these will raise the Sense of your hero and greatly augment their stats when facing greater challenges.

Expert players looking to push themselves to the limit can also partake in the new Racing and Doom modes coming as part of this update. Participating in these modes will give you a chance to earn the coveted Flaming Ash Burning katana skin.

Showdown Chapter II builds on the success of NARAKA: BLADEPOINT’s ambitious PvE mode, which was first introduced earlier this year. This has helped expand the game beyond its core competitive modes which include duels, brawls, and the marquee, 60-player battle royale. But that’s not all! 24 Entertainment promises more content drops as we march into 2023 and beyond.

    • In a new documentary, 24 Entertainment — the pioneering studio behind NARAKA: BLADEPOINT — reflect on where their inspirations came from, and how they built a game that would go on to sell over 10 million copies, completely changing the online action genre.

Fun fact: it all started with the iconic 1999 arena shooter, Quake III, as Lead Producer, Ray Kawn, explains. “It was so fun, but when I was playing it I came up with an idea. What if we played with swords instead of guns? Wouldn't it be more fun?” And so the seed was planted, an idea that Kwan and his team would ultimately grow into NARAKA: BLADEPOINT.

Something else you may not have known is that Viper Ning, the instantly recognizable face of NARAKA, underwent a dramatic makeover during development. In the documentary, 24 Entertainment reveal that their original mascot was a stoic swordsman, though the team wanted to shatter this stereotype and appeal to a wider international audience. By fusing the cinematic style of modern action games with the beauty of oriental aesthetics, the Blind Blademaster of West Yushan was born.

The developers also discuss the challenge of breaking into the battle royale genre, years after its original surge in popularity. Instead of thinking there was no hope, 24 Entertainment knew that that this genre was a perfect fit for their unique blend of dynamic player movement and melee action, as Kwan explains. The shrinking safe zone forces players to fight and adapt instead of simply fleeing when their health is low, solving an age-old issue with multiplayer action games.

Not only would they need to breach an overcrowded genre, the studio were challenged to make their game accessible to a wider audience, something melee-focused games have always struggled to achieve. Revealing all, the documentary explores how NARAKA’s gameplay went through many iterations, from something one tester refused to even touch, to a point where its own developers couldn’t stop playtesting from their desks.

At its heart, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT has always focused on skill-based melee combat, allowing players to unleash their inner warrior; the team’s unrivalled passion for the action game genre is clear to see in its unique combat gameplay. It’s also here that 24 Entertainment showcase their incredible attention to detail, carefully studying martial arts techniques from around the world. In their pursuit for authenticity they invited real Shaolin monks to their offices to provide motion capture for NARAKA’s newest in-game weapon, the Staff.

NARAKA has swiftly become one of the most popular battle royale games around the world and there’s plenty more to come. “I believe 24 Entertainment will bring you more surprises in NARAKA in the future,” Kwan teases. The 24 Entertainment team are excitedly looking forward to sharing their vision, adding more modes, heroes, weapons, and maps to this beloved title in the coming months and years.
