    • Neues Jahr, neue Infos zu Akka Arrh, wobei das meiste schon bekannt war...

Today, Atari revealed another first-look at a once-lost title: Akka Arrh. A hypnotic fever dream from the mind of legendary designer Jeff Minter, Akka Arrh delivers all the chaos and fun from the golden age of gaming in an updated, modernized package. Coming to PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and Atari VCS in early 2023, Akka Arrh invites retro enthusiasts and new players alike to feed their heads to a new kind of web!

Showcased in a new screenshot reveal, Akka Arrh combines synthwave madness with vibrant, dreamlike visuals. Tinged with Minter’s sense of humor and prolific graphic style, Akka Arrh is the showcase of his love of psychedelic color and light, combined with his ability to create pure arcade bliss. A frenzied kaleidoscope of neon insanity, Akka Arrh is one of the rarest games of the arcade era, but brings back the nostalgic arcade experience with a vengeance.

Blast through swaths of enemy waves while manning the titular Akka Arrh, a suped-up cannon just begging to be unleashed. A rhythmically flowing arcade shooter experience and psychedelic visual explosion of color, this modern take of the incredibly rare Atari arcade prototype encapsulates the vector style of decade’s past to a T. Soon, players will have the chance to experience not just one of Atari’s rarest games, and one of the rarest games of the arcade era!

      Key Features of Akka Arrh:
      • A Whirlwind of Electrifying Color: From the mind of Jeff Minter, players will experience a cascade of words, color, shapes and sound flows as they mount the Akka Arrh and fend off attackers. An explosion of dazzling neon graphics,Akka Arrh is a visually stunning, action-packed arcade shooter.
      • Ready, Aim, Fire!: Akka Arrh shares its name with the game’s star cannon, which players control from a fixed turret called the Sentinel. Featuring fast-paced wave-shooter action, players will prevent enemies from penetrating the Sentinel’s perimeter, zooming into close range combat and beat them back if they penetrate their defenses.
      • Mystifying Modes to Master: With two modes of play, pilots can start from the beginning and battle their way through 50 unique levels, or pick up where they left off to power through to the end

Developed by Llamasoft and legendary game designer Jeff Minter, who previously brought the original Tempest and its successor Tempest 4000™ to life, Akka Arrh embodies his signature light-synth style and ability to craft a uniquely insane but extremely fun arcade experience.

    • Hattest du eigentlich eine Antwort erhalten Heiko?

Ich hätte noch ein frisches ""Behind the Scenes Video mit Jeff Minter" im Angebot:

Akka Arrh started out as a prototype project with only three known arcade cabinets in existence, one of which resided with a diehard collector for years. The title courted controversy when a gaming enthusiast got his hands on the ROMs, copied them and distributed them without permission. Jeff Minter, intrigued by the legendary game, decided to take the project under his wing and modernize it — with a few of his own eccentric twists.

Akka Arrh, despite its obvious retro influence, is not a traditional arcade game. "It's not trying to throw you off every three minutes so you put another coin in the slot," said Minter, commenting on the game’s more relaxed and casual pace.

Minter carefully approached retooling the gameplay, making sure he retained some of the game’s original mechanics while also adding accessibility features and making the gameplay more asymmetric and dynamic. When it came to the soundscape, Jeff explains, “I didn’t quite know what music I wanted to put into it, but then I decided I wanted to try some semi-generative stuff. It’s a tonal sequence which is generated by the enemies and by your actions as you shoot enemies, which gives each level a distinctive feel.”

While it took Minter a long time to put the pieces together that would ultimately become his version of Akka Arrh, he humbly explains that the game’s classic arcade feel and simplistic gameplay really are the heart of its charm. Influenced by the prolific works of game designer Eugene Jarvis, Minter explains that there is a certain aesthetic present at the roots of all of the games that he’s developed, and Akka Arrh brings it all together in a package that is both intriguing and utterly chaotic — all by design, of course.

    • Und nun also auch noch physisch :)

This Friday, reserve your spot to get your hands on the most psychedelic gaming experience of the year with Jeff Minter’s Akka Arrh via physical release. To bring the physical version to fans on the PlayStation 4|5 and Nintendo Switch, Atari has partnered with Limited Run Games in North America and Numskull Games in Europe.

Preorders for the North American version begin Friday, March 10th, on LimitedRunGames.com. Physical editions will hit retail stores later this spring in Europe, including limited quantities of a special Day One Edition.

Akka Arrh’s physical release wouldn’t be complete without some eye-melting box art, which is just what popular Brazilian pop culture artist Butcher Billy has created for the physical editions. Two different versions of the key art will be available: one variant for North America and one for Europe.
