Capcom confirms online play in Europe for
Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 and Monster Hunter

London – 12 November 2004 – Capcom today confirmed that its forthcoming PlayStation 2 titles Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 and Monster Hunter will both feature online play when released in Europe in 2005.

Scheduled for release next summer, Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 challenges ordinary citizens from the beleaguered Raccoon City to fight against the odds to stay alive or worse, become the latest recruit to the ever growing ranks of the living dead. Selecting one of eight characters, players team up with three online companions in a series of five scenarios exposing them to the perils of such diverse areas as a forest, a police station and Raccoon City zoo, where even the animals have not escaped the affects of the T-Virus.

Teamwork is essential if all four members are to survive. Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 allows players to give and receive vital items such as health and ammunition; provide covering fire and even a shoulder for an injured colleague to lean on. Communication of these requests is via an innovative one button system that calculates your situation and automatically supplies the necessary prompt. New features for Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 include the ability for characters to shoot while walking – a first for a Resident Evil game; multiple routes through the scenarios; character specific moves and additional weapons.

Monster Hunter transports players to a world where fantastic creatures roam the earth and the key to survival is simple - hunt or be hunted. Forming a team of up to four players, hunters can choose between a wide range of challenging assignments - from defeating specific beasts and collecting items, to defending towns - all the while mindful that they do not become a monster’s next meal.

As the story unfolds, individual characters develop through surviving battles and the power of the weapons and protective gear they possess. Weapon shops located in the neighbouring towns and villages allow hunters to purchase, create or strengthen weapons and armour using items collected during combat and the skin or horns acquired from the monsters that have been defeated. The variety of armament combinations used or obtained is almost limitless.

“It has been a long and involved process but it is a testament to the hard work of all those involved that we are now able to deliver both these titles with full online content. Since their launches in Japan Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 and Monster Hunter have proved incredibly successful with thousands of players regularly competing in online sessions and we hope to emulate this success in PAL territories,” commented David Miller, European Marketing Director, Capcom.

Notes to editors – Both Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 and Monster Hunter will also offer single player offline gameplay experiences.
