Very nice! I have a blade hanging off my tail as well!

I am really slow, so I only now get the meaning of Xenocider.
The player character is not a hero you said ... but an attacker. And she commits genocide on xenos, meaning those who are strange and different!

This took me so long to see, I fear I will be sitting at the title screen for 2 months unable to get into the game!

This is the best feedback we have ever received so far xD

Very nice piano work an over-the-top-weirdness/oddity-award-winning enemy-design :) :top:

Thank you. We are aiming for the absurd, unexpected, weird and all that jazz :P

    That looks gorgeous, Carlos

Is the sun actually a real light source? The way it shines through in between the mountains makes me think so.

Anyway, can't wait to see a video of this beautiful stage in action including the heroine and some enemies!

Edit: could as well just be part of the background-layer, looks great either way.

Very nice, thanks for posting this! And thanks for mentioning this site too. :)

I find it pretty cool that you got to talk to the police in Spain. Sure, I could talk to the police here, but only if I commited a crime. :P I really doubt that the serious attitude they have here would allow them to spend time answering questions for some indie game.

It is also very important. I always liked the Law & Order shows from the US. Very popular franchise running for decades... and for a couple of years they have a UK spin-off too. Mostly they just adapted US stories to the UK scenario... and it doesn't work. Casual viewers may be fine with that, but I hear a lot of complaints from people familiar with UK police procedures and court stuff. Because the system just does not work the same in the UK as it does in the US. It just feels akward and wrong.
As you say, the same applies for European countries. And being Spanish, with the game being set in Spain, I think it is important for atmosphere and uniqueness to pay attention to how things work in Spain. I want the distinct feel of being in Spain when the scenario is such.

    So I appreciate this effort.
I also appreciate that you say you will add puzzles etc, as it makes the game so much more interesting to me. I do love story driven games, but with visual novels I find myself losing interest most of the time due to lack of interactivity. Adding a bit in that regard will help make it more varied. From the police scenario I can really imagine working in puzzles handling evidence for example, actually having stuff you have to combine in your own head instead of the game story just telling you. I am sure you can work some nice diversions out.

    About Xenocider:
Does the tool chui made also inform you of how performance would be somewhat accurately? I mean, having the polygons counted is one thing, but there is so much else going on that I imagine can impact performance. The better that tool reflects Dreamcast capabilities, the less you will have to rely on real hardware every few minutes.

I really think that the intelligent use of limited polygons and great textures to work together to make something look great is part of what makes games of the era impressive. Personally I like early 3D; that includes PS1 and Saturn which many can not stand anymore. But to this day I am genuinel impressed when I look at something like Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon, and how clever the stuff was made to look great while having good performance; while poorly executed games pushed more polygons, sacrificed framerates but still looked worse. Or the level of optimization... where do I use a texture, where are shaded polygons good enough, and what objects should I render in 3D and which ones can I do as sprites with players not noticing much?
This all made visuals from the 32-bit era until the DC and PS2 so much more interesting.

I am so much more in awe seeing for the time great 3D graphics from the pre-HD era than when I see a superior modern game, just knowing it takes so much more to achieve this on old hardware. I think it must be much more boring to do stuff with modern hardware... where is the fun in having such almost unlimited ressources?

    ...

I'm glad that you liked the interview! Yes it was cool talking to real police officers. Actually the Policía Nacional are really serious guys... but I think they don't feel appreciated in our country for the work they do, so when I approached them, seeing that I was not, say, from the tabloid press or anything but absolutely respectful, they listened with an open mind. They liked the idea because the game might show another side of they everyday work :)

Yeah it's important for me, and I think it will be for the players as well, that the setting and the police action feels real so I hope you guys will like the result!

About the puzzles... you're right. We thought about this for long, the majority of western players are not used to the little-to-no gameplay a visual novel usually features, so we want to keep their interesting in order to enjoy the story until the end. Puzzles will include of course police specific situations.

The tool that Chui developed provides us with plenty of info, like memory consumed and such. And I agree, managing to create something playable and physically believable with such low resources was (is!) amazing.

Someone just passed away. Someone close to our main character Hugo. He returns home feeling devastated, but also somewhat relieved. It’s the morning after, and he has a new lead on the killer. His friend’s death may have not been in vain.
